The historic settlement of Kaapsehoop was founded on Gold and was the centre of events that led to the Barberton Gold fields. Walk through its picturesque streets and only murmurs now echo through the old buildings of the many colourful characters that flocked here to seek their fortunes. Come with us and revisit those distant times and relive the murder, mayhem, tragedy, mystery and often humorous tales of those that once haunted this quaint little village and perhaps still do.
The Ghost Tour, which takes in the historic buildings in the village takes about an hour and costs R150 pp and starts at sunset.
The longer Tour, a walk across the escarpment with its magnificent views, includes a fuller history of the area, the geology, the tribes, precolonial history ( Events in European and Asian History have been affecting Africa for 1000's of years and vice versa ), taking in the Boer War fortifications built by the British and culminates in the Ghost Tour around the village. It starts an hour and half before sunset and takes 2 and half hours (About 3 km s walk) For those that have wondered about Africa and wish to fill those major gaps in their knowledge, it's ideal and may change your perception of African and World History forever.
